Stationary Chippers

Stationary chippers are machines designed for shredding wood pieces or wood waste into chips. The resulting wood chips can range in size from a few millimeters to several centimeters, depending on the machine and configuration.

Where are chippers used?

Each chipper consists of a loading hopper, a shredding chamber, a discharge chute, and a drive unit. Depending on the design, several types of chippers can be distinguished — the most common are disc chippers and drum chippers.

In disc chippers, a rotating metal disc equipped with knives chips the wood into flakes.

In drum chippers, a cylindrical drum with cutting knives or protrusions rotates and slices the wood into uniform pieces.

Chippers, also referred to as shredders, may be mobile or stationary, combustion-engine powered or electric. In industrial production, large electric stationary drum chippers are used most often. These machines deliver extremely high capacity and frequently operate as components of production lines. They typically work together with:

separators, which remove contaminants from wood chips,

dryers, which bring the material to the correct moisture level,

hammer mills, which further refine the material into homogeneous fractions for pellet or briquette production.

Stationary chippers are widely used in the sawmill industry, forestry and landscaping, as well as industrial wood-processing plants. They can shred logs, branches, slabs, or various wood residues. The resulting chips can be used directly for combustion or processed into pulp, MDF boards, or — after further milling — into pellet or briquette fuel.

Stationary Drum Chipper Skorpion 650 EB

The Skorpion 650 EB is a stationary drum chipper designed for chipping flat-edged slabs, roundwood and various types of sawmill and furniture waste up to 650 mm wide and 200 mm high.

The Skorpion 350 EB

The Skorpion 350 EB is a stationary drum chipper designed for chipping slabs, roundwood, and various sawmill and furniture-manufacturing waste up to 350 mm in width and 100 mm in height.

The chipper is controlled via an electrical control cabinet responsible for start-up, operation monitoring, overload protection, and shutdown. The cutting system consists of a drum with 2, 3, or optionally 4 knives. A screen ensures excellent chip uniformity. The number of knives and the screen opening size determine the final chip fraction.

The infeed material is transported into the cutting chamber by two toothed feeding rollers driven by gearmotors. The machine is powered by a 37 kW electric motor. An automatic overload protection system temporarily stops the feed system whenever the cutting unit is overloaded.

The Skorpion 350 EB can operate with both belt-type and vibrating loading/unloading conveyors. The basic system includes the chipper unit, control cabinet, and optional feeding and discharge conveyors.

The produced chip can be used for direct combustion or as feedstock for pulp, furniture boards, or — after secondary milling — for pellet or briquette production.

Stationary Drum Chipper Skorpion 500 EB

The Skorpion 500 EB is a stationary drum chipper designed for processing slabs, roundwood, and various sawmill and furniture waste up to 500 mm in width.

It is powered by a slow-speed electric motor with 45 or 55 kW of power. Compared to high-speed motors, slow-speed motors offer smoother operation and significantly higher torque. They also improve V-belt service life thanks to the larger pulley diameter.

The cutting system consists of a drum with 2, 3, or 4 knives and a counter-knife. A screen ensures highly uniform chip size. The knife configuration and screen type determine the final chip geometry.

Control is handled by an electrical cabinet with start-up, operation monitoring, overload protection, and shutdown functions. The automatic system temporarily stops the feeding mechanism in case of overload.

The Skorpion 500 EB can be integrated with belt or vibrating conveyors, making it easy to implement in any industrial wood-processing line.

Stationary Drum Chipper Skorpion 650 EB

The Skorpion 650 EB is a heavy-duty stationary drum chipper designed for chipping slabs, roundwood, and industrial wood waste up to 650 mm wide and 200 mm high.

The machine is controlled by an electrical cabinet responsible for start-up, operation monitoring, overload protection, and shutdown. The cutting system includes a drum with 2, 3, or 4 knives and a screen ensuring uniform chip quality. Infeed material is transported into the cutting chamber by seven toothed feeding rollers driven by two gearmotors.

The chipper is powered by a 110 kW electric motor, and the automatic overload system temporarily halts feeding whenever necessary.

The Skorpion 650 EB can operate with belt or vibrating conveyors. The basic configuration includes the chipper, control cabinet, and optional loading and discharge conveyors.

The resulting chips may be used for combustion or further processed into pulp, board materials, pellet, or briquette fuel after secondary milling.
